While SUVs have become the dominant players in the automotive industry today, it should be remembered that there was a time not too long ago when they were viewed as the "odd ones out" by the industry.
This was true of the Acura MDX model, which made its debut in 2001, at a time when people had not overwhelmingly embraced this type of transportation. The MDX differed significantly from other models in that it was a luxury brand, and it was also regarded as a dream car. It was rare and exclusive.
The reputation of the MDX was built on its foundation and it only grew stronger over the years. And by 2022, it's only going to get bolder, because a new generation has just been unveiled and frankly, it's solid … very solid.
Before we look at the model, remember that you can now build your own Acura and drive off behind the wheel of a 2022 Acura MDX for sale at Acura Plus Blainville, your premier dealership in Quebec on the North Shore of Montreal, near Laval, Sainte-Thérèse, Boisbriand, Terrebonne and Saint-Jérôme. You can rely on a reliable brand and a talented team which invites you to explore new Acura vehicles online or at our dealership, as well as our inventory of top-quality pre-owned vehicles.
The Acura MDX SUV is the third Acura product to adopt the brand's new signature, which debuted on the RDX SUV and TLX sedan. It won acclaim with both those vehicles and the effect is just as dramatic with the MDX. It stands out very favourably in its class.
There are two very different variants of the MDX. In fact, you can tell them apart visually. The one with the more classic 3.5-litre (290 hp) V6 engine and the other with a 3.0-litre (355 hp) turbocharged V6, Type S engine. A highly efficient 10-speed automatic transmission propels the MDX.
The interior has been completely redesigned for this new generation. Right off the bat, we notice that the quality of the interior has increased by several notches. The previous model was already impressive, but this one just got a lot more so. All surfaces exude luxury and contrasting stitching on the seats of some models make for an even more elegant experience.
What can be said about the display; it's magnificent! The layout is dominated by two 12.3-inch screens. The first one sits in front of the driver and is a replacement for the traditional instruments. The upside is that it offers a customization feature that allows us to find whatever information we want. The other unit is the one in the centre console, which hides the multimedia system functions.
Naturally, inside a luxury vehicle, it's not all about quality. Acura knows that, which is why it delivers a very upscale environment. For example, you'll find 16-way adjustable front seats and a massage function. The same goes for the 16-speaker ELS audio system.
Technology-wise, it's all there too, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps, wireless internet, integrated navigation, and wireless charging for cellular devices.
In other words, you get something that's worthy of what a luxury vehicle should offer. All of this is packed into a truly seductive package.
Finally, Acura has sharpened its edge when it comes to the driving experience as well. The new 2022 Acura MDX offers the same level of comfort as the previous generation, but its handling is much more incisive because of a better-calibrated chassis, one that allows for an inspired driving experience.
And let's not forget what the Type S version is going to offer with its even more incisive sporty demeanour. All in all, we're going to have some interesting things to sink our teeth into with this new generation of the MDX. And Acura is probably not done surprising us with this model.
The MDX made enthusiasts dream 20 years ago, and it's making them salivate once again by reinventing itself for 2022; that's what we call a high point. Stop by Acura Plus Blainville, near Laval, Sainte-Thérèse, Boisbriand, Terrebonne and Saint-Jérôme, to see for yourself.
